Mana Mokopuna | Children’s Commissioner advocates for the rights and best interests of all children and young people in Aotearoa New Zealand. Mokopuna can only thrive when they have a genuine say in the decisions that affect them. Ensuring their voices are heard helps create better policies for mokopuna, their whānau, and their communities.

Mana Mokopuna needed a visual approach for an animation that would encourage children and young people to complete the ‘What Matters Most’ survey, giving them a platform to express their views on issues that directly affect their lives. The challenge was to make the concept of having a voice relatable, fun, and engaging for a young audience.

We developed a visual approach that brought the Mana Mokopuna belief, “your voice is the most important one in the room”, to life. Inclusive and diverse illustrative characters were created in the brand’s colours, making the survey accessible and approachable. Speech bubbles, organic lines, and playful shapes were used to simplify the idea of ‘using your voice’ in an engaging and fun way. The animation was also adapted into a te reo Māori version, ensuring accessibility for all mokopuna.
